Jan Gillanders
My name is Jan Gillanders. I live, work and play on a 40 acre farm in Quilcene, WA. The octagonal, 2 story house sits on top of the land facing south. Hours spent on the large covered porch, observing the incredible view of the water and mountains, allow the creative process to flow. Inside the house, I'm surrounded by an eclectic mix of furnishings and art. It's a place friends, neighbors, and family come, kick off their shoes and relax. I share this peaceful place with horses, Jacob Sheep, cats and dogs. An abundance of wild life of all kinds come and go as they please, adding to the magical feel of the place. I consider it an honor to live among these incredible things.
As the flock of sheep grew, so did my passion for spinning, weaving, and knitting. Given the opportunity to work with fiber from start to finish, I discovered a great appreciation for the process of creating something from "scratch". The journey of "sheep to shawl" is awesome. Each one of my sheep has a distinct personality that often comes through in the finished product.
