Douglas Selley Byrd Port Townsend landscape artist Douglas Selley Byrd’s oil paintings remind us of autumns ever changing beauty Washington’s changing seasons offer an abundance of colors to paint from but the reds yellows and blues skies of fall are his favorite. Douglas also paints with vibrant oils and impressionistic style and says autumn has a way of jumping onto his canvas. Being a self taught artist ,Douglas took his inspiration from the impressionist painter of the 19th century. They taught him the best way to capture light filled landscapes is with brilliant colors and impasto oils. Douglas has worked with watercolors, acrylics, and oil pastels in the past but never felt they could truly give him the depth oils achieve. Attached it “The Race” An actual race that took place off of Port Townsend. See if you can recognize the boats. |
