Scratchboard Art by Sharon Wald

Scratchboard is a special paper that is coated with a layer of finely ground clay.  It is heat cured and very sooth.  As I work color into the background, and the drawing itself, I start building up my backgrounds with layers of color, then alternating layers color and layers of scratches.  If you look at my original Scratchboards you can actually see the depth of the lines.
