Artist Bio....
Several
years ago I picked up my first piece of soapstone to try my
hand at carving a bear, just a normal one, standing on four
feet. I was very pleased with him and carving bears has
become a work of love and my passion ever since.
I have admired bears for many years and we frequently
visit National Parks in the United States and Canada looking
for them, but they are getting very hard to find. They are
powerful, protective of their young, yet able to relax and
enjoy lying in the sun, catching fish, eating sweet berries,
and just wandering about… anywhere they want to go.
Why
do I carve "Dancing Bears"?
Such a powerful animal could be shown in a fierce and
aggressive stance, but I prefer to see them as having fun,
playing just the way they do as young cubs. I design them to
bring a smile, be pleasing to look at, and a pleasure to
own.
